"You're at a flea market, or browsing the aisles of a rural antique shop, and you spot it: a weathered old birdhouse that instantly brings to mind childhood memories in the country, the surprise of a blue robin's egg, languid afternoons filled with the scent of honeysuckle and the sound of birdsong.  It's at that moment that you become a collector, forever, under the spell of houses with thumbnail-size windows and barns no bigger than a bread box.  Suddenly, you find yourself entranced by peeling paint and crumbling clapboard, and your heart quickens at the sight of bird scratches and swallow droppings.  You can take comfort, of course, in the knowledge that you're not alone in your mania for these micro-dwellings.  Birdhouses are increasingly valued as collectibles and one-of-a-kind examples of folk art." excerpt from The New Birdhouse Book by Leslie Gariston

We at Sawdust Treasures have tried to return to the fun things in wood working.....birdhouses, picture frames, garden angels, pumpkins, and christmas trees.  We started and still are in a shop behind our house.  We build our creations one piece at a time from re-cycled wood and metal.  So, sometimes we do not have all of the materials to make exactly the same creation...in other words it may be just a little different.
